Returns and cancellations

Version 2026-07-v1 · Last updated 29 July 2026

Circumstances change, and occasionally something is not as it should be. The following sets out, without ambiguity, when an order may be cancelled, how and when you are refunded, and what we undertake to do if an animal proves not to be as it was described.

Before payment

An order that is reserved but not paid for simply lapses in time, and the animals return to sale; nothing is owed. Where an animal has been requested rather than bought outright, you may withdraw at any point before you accept our quotation, again at no cost.

After payment, before handover

You may cancel a paid order at any time before the animals are handed over to you, and we will refund the full amount. Because you are buying a particular living animal, a change of mind after the animal has been handed over is not, by itself, a basis for return.

Where an animal is not as described

If an animal is materially different from the way it was described to you, please tell us promptly and we will put the matter right, whether by refund or by replacement. We stand behind the condition of each animal at the point at which it is handed over, the accuracy of our description, and the checks we carry out before a sale. What we cannot answer for is how an animal fares once it has passed into your care and management, which lies beyond our control.

Orders that include processing

If you cancel after paying for slaughter or cutting, but before slaughter has begun, the charge for those services is refunded. Once an animal has been slaughtered, that work cannot be reversed, and the processing charge is not refundable. The terms above continue to apply to the animal itself.

How refunds are made

Refunds are made to your original method of payment, ordinarily within five to ten business days, or by other arrangement where that is not possible, and every refund is recorded. Nothing in this policy limits the rights afforded to you by the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008; and should a matter remain unresolved between us, you are entitled to approach the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.
