The health of the animals we sell matters to us as much as it does to you. Every animal is examined and its health recorded before it is offered for sale, and this policy explains what that examination covers, what it can and cannot tell you, and the sensible steps to take when a new animal reaches you.

What is checked before an animal is sold

Before an animal is offered, it is examined, and its health, vaccination status and identification are recorded. Where a listing shows health or vaccination information, that information forms part of the record we hold on the animal; it is set down as a matter of fact, and not written for effect.

What the health record can and cannot tell you

The health information we provide reflects an animal’s condition at the time we examine it and hand it over. It is an honest account of the animal as we find it, and not a warranty as to its future health, which depends inevitably on how the animal is fed, housed, moved and managed once it has passed into your care.

When a new animal reaches you

A few sensible precautions serve any buyer well when a new animal arrives. We would encourage you to examine the animal before you accept or load it, to allow it time to settle, and to keep it apart from your existing animals for a short period, as is good practice whenever new stock is introduced. Should the animal show any sign of illness, keep it separate, consult your own veterinarian, and let us know so that we can assist.

Slaughter, cutting and food safety

Where you add own-use slaughter, it is carried out only at a registered abattoir subject to statutory meat inspection, and cutting only at a licensed facility. Any meat that does not pass inspection is dealt with as the law requires. Throughout, meat is held within the correct temperature range and accompanied by a traceability record from slaughter to delivery, so that food safety is maintained at every step.
